Your wedding day will simultaneously be an unforgettable event and a happy blur. From photos and makeup touch-ups to the ceremony and your reception, your bridal bouquet will likely accompany you through it all! Your bouquet could endure a lot of stress through all of the day’s excitement, so we’re sharing three tips to keep your bridal bouquet looking its absolute best.
This first tip may seem obvious, but it’s important to note nonetheless! Flowers are very delicate, and it’s key to treat them with care throughout the day. Instead of tossing them to the side where they could bruise or be crushed, place them in a vase or on a table when you aren’t holding your bouquet.
When you’re taking photos without your bouquet, have a designated bridesmaid stand by to hold it for you.
Bonus tip for the groom:
Be mindful when hugging people while wearing your boutonniere so you don’t accidentally crush your flowers!
When we give you your personal flowers the morning of your wedding, we’ll show you how to hold your bouquet and trim the ribbon if needed. After that, we recommend putting your bridal bouquet back in its vase in a fridge without food so it can look extra fresh. If the fridge has food in it, an air-conditioned room will work, too.
For our Nashville brides getting married in the summer, you’re probably well aware that the Tennessee heat will be intense! While it may seem like flowers would like being in the sun, that’s only true for growing flowers. Cut flowers prefer to be kept out of the sun and wind, so keep them in a cool area without a strong draft when you’re not using them to prevent them from looking wilted.
Then, once you’re ready for photos and your wedding ceremony, your bouquet will look its very best!
Flowers, of course, love water. While you’re waiting for your photos and the ceremony to begin, place your bouquet in its vase with lukewarm water below the ribbon. If the ribbon does get wet, use a towel and squeeze the stems to dry the water off.
The water needs to be at a warm temperature that isn’t hot or cold. Extreme temperatures can hurt the flowers, and warm water is easiest for flowers to absorb.
Bonus tip:
If you plan on preserving your bouquet, designate someone to place your bouquet in a vase in the fridge after the ceremony. This will ensure they are at their most vibrant when given to the person who will be preserving them!
