The sunny days bring the infamous heat along with it, which cut flowers don’t love. With this in mind, we’re sharing a list of our fifteen favorite summer wedding flowers. Some flowers on this list are more heat-tolerant than others. We reserve those exclusively for indoor arrangements.

Cosmos
Cosmos are effortlessly beautiful with their airy movement and delicate appearance. While they do best out of direct light and high temperatures (like all cut flowers), they’re more resilient than they look! They come in an array of colors like white, pink, purple, red, orange, and yellow.
Dahlias
Dahlias are always at the top of our list when it comes to focal-point flowers, and they’re most available in August and September. Their diverse shapes and sizes allow for them to be used in a variety of different floral designs, and they come in gorgeous colorways. Because of Nashville’s intense summer heat, they’re best suited for indoor floral designs.
Butterfly Ranunculus
Resembling delicate butterflies in flight, these blooms radiate romance and grace. Their intricate layers of petals and pastel hues make them a standout choice for both bouquets and table centerpieces, while their heat tolerance ensures they remain fresh throughout your summer Nashville wedding.
While they’re all gorgeous, our favorite varieties of butterfly ranunculus are Thiva, Musa, Melissa, Hestia, and Keramos.
Delphinium
Tall and stately, delphiniums bring a sense of garden-inspired elegance to summer weddings. Their towering blooms add height and structure to arrangements, making them perfect for statement floral installations and aisle flowers.
They require extra attention if used outdoors, and we reserve them for weddings that aren’t in direct sunlight or extreme heat.
Lisianthus
Lisianthus are a truly elegant flower that peaks closer to the end of summer. Their delicate, ruffled petals and long, slender stems make them perfect for table arrangements of any size. They are available in a variety of colors from soft pastels to rich jewel tones.
They’re moderately heat resistant and do best either in the shade or indoors.
Carnations
Carnations are thankfully starting to get the recognition they deserve! They’re an incredibly hardy flower, and they look beautiful both en masse and when paired with more premium blooms. A few of our favorite carnation colors include terracotta, cream, and green.
Amaranthus
With its cascading foliage, amaranthus adds a whimsical yet elevated touch to summer weddings. Whether in bouquets or ceremony features, its trailing stems create a sense of movement and interest.
It comes in shades of green, gold, berry, and red.
Cymbidium Orchids
These orchids look great in practically any summer floral design, and they’re definitely a statement flower! We love them for their unique shape, color options, and long stems.
Roses
Hybrid tea roses, garden roses, and spray roses are a go-to for us in all seasons. They’re classic flowers and have countless colors, sizes, and varieties to choose from. They aren’t happy in extreme heat, but they are great for bouquets and shadier outdoor settings.
Peonies
Peonies are one of the most requested flowers from our brides, and it’s easy to understand why! Their fluffy, voluminous shape in various colors is stunning, and they always make a tasteful statement with their soft petals. They can be difficult to source, but we love to take advantage of the opportunity to design with them when they’re available.
Clematis
Clematis is an early summer flower known for its delicate, star-shaped blooms and lush foliage that add beautiful texture and gentle movement to bouquets. Whether cascading from floral arches or woven into bouquets and centerpieces, clematis radiates natural beauty in each of its color options.
If its kept out of direct sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day, clematis will stay beautiful throughout your summer wedding.
Tweedia
We love tweedia’s delicate blooms for the soft texture and shape it adds to any floral design. While it also comes in white, we’re a bit partial to its powdery blue hue option. It makes a great “something blue,” too!
Hydrangea
With their voluminous, cloud-like blooms, hydrangeas are a popular choice for Nashville summer weddings. They’re a quintessential summer flower with several colors to choose from.
They drink water from their stems and petals, so we’ll mist them with water before your wedding ceremony begins to help them look their best.
Poppies
Bold and vibrant, poppies infuse floral designs with a sense of excitement with their papery petals and interesting stems. Whether in bright reds, soft pinks, or sunny yellows, these eye-catching blooms add a playful touch to bouquets and arrangements.
Because they’re delicate flowers, we wouldn’t use them in an outdoor floral design. However, they’re perfect for an indoor wedding!
Scabiosa
Scabiosa, also known as the pincushion flower, is a delightful bloom with a lot of playful movement. With its unique appearance characterized by delicate, rounded blooms atop slender stems, scabiosa brings texture to floral designs like bouquets, centerpieces, and floral installations like grounded floral nests.
They’re available in a wide range of colors including soft pastels and rich jewel tones.
